Why Are My Nano Brows Still Blue After 3 Years? The Truth About Deep Implantation

Nano brows are celebrated for being a soft, semi-permanent enhancement. In a perfect world, they should fade gently over 12–18 months, allowing for a "refresh" as your face and style evolve.

But what happens when they don't fade? Or worse—what if they turn a stubborn, cold shade of blue?

We recently saw a client who had a single session of nano brows done over three years ago. Despite the passage of time, the strokes were still very much present, but they had shifted to a distinct blue/grey hue. If you are dealing with "zombie brows" that won't budge, here is why it happened and how we fixed it.

The Science: Why "Permanent" Isn't Always Better

Nano brows use a machine to create hair strokes. When done correctly, the pigment is placed in the upper layers of the dermis. However, two main factors can lead to blue, "stuck" pigment:

  1. Deep Implantation: If the needle goes even a fraction of a millimeter too deep, it hits the lower dermis. Here, the body cannot easily metabolize the ink.

  2. The Tyndall Effect: This is a physics phenomenon where light reflects through the skin. When pigment is buried too deep, the skin acts as a filter, making even dark brown ink appear blue or grey from the surface.

The Oily Skin Factor

Our client had an oily skin type, which is a crucial detail. On oily skin, nano strokes are meant to heal soft and slightly "powdery." If nano strokes remain crisp, dark, and blue on oily skin after three years, it is a definitive sign of over-saturation and deep implantation. The skin simply cannot clear that amount of pigment on its own.

The Solution: Shattering the Blue with Pico Laser

Because the pigment was sitting so deep, traditional "lightening" creams or saline removals wouldn't have reached the source. We turned to Pico Laser technology.

Unlike older lasers that can struggle with the specific blue-grey tones of old PMU, the Pico Laser uses pressure-wave technology to target the ink at its specific depth.

  • The Session: We targeted the "stuck" blue pigment without damaging the surface of her oily skin.

  • The Reaction: The Pico Laser shattered the dense ink particles into tiny fragments that her lymphatic system could finally carry away.

  • The Result: After just one targeted session, the harsh blue "shadow" began to lift, revealing her natural skin tone again.

Experience Matters

Removing blue pigment from a "nano brow" session requires a technician who understands skin histology. We have to balance the power of the laser to reach the depth of the mistake while ensuring the skin stays healthy for future (and better!) brow work.

You shouldn't have to live with the results of an old, deep tattoo. Whether your brows have turned blue, grey, or purple, our Pico Laser technology is designed to give you your face back.
