FAQs For Laser Removal Service

What is Pico laser for permanent makeup or body tattoo?

Pico laser removal is an advanced laser technology used to safely and effectively remove body tattoos and permanent makeup. "Pico" refers to picosecond technology, meaning the laser delivers ultra-short bursts of energy—measured in trillionths of a second. These rapid pulses shatter the pigment into tiny particles without generating as much heat as traditional lasers, making it more gentle on the skin.

For permanent makeup, such as eyebrows or lip tint, the precision of the Pico laser is key. It targets pigment without damaging surrounding skin, reducing the risk of scarring or changes to natural skin tone. Because permanent makeup pigments can be tricky—especially those with red, pink, or beige tones—a skilled technician will assess your skin and pigment type to ensure safe and successful treatment.

For body tattoos, Pico lasers can treat a wide range of ink colors and penetrate deeper into the skin, allowing for faster clearance with fewer sessions. It’s especially effective on stubborn or older tattoos that may not have responded well to other methods.

Overall, Pico laser removal is known for faster healing, fewer sessions, and a lower risk of side effects compared to older laser technologies.

How does laser removal work for permanent makeup or body tattoo?

Laser removal for tattoos and permanent makeup uses targeted light energy to break down the pigment particles in the skin. The laser emits short pulses of light that are absorbed by the ink, causing it to fragment into smaller pieces. These tiny fragments are then naturally eliminated by your body’s immune system over time.

Different ink colors and skin types may require specific wavelengths for effective treatment, and multiple sessions are usually needed to fade or fully remove the pigment. For permanent makeup—such as eyebrows or lip tinting—extra care is taken to avoid damage to delicate facial areas, and specialized techniques are often used to minimize skin irritation and preserve natural features.

At Munique brows studio, we offer patch testing before full treatment.

What is the difference between pico laser and q-switch laser?

Pico laser removal is a newer, more advanced technology compared to Q-switched laser removal. The main difference is how fast the laser works—Pico lasers use ultra-fast pulses that break the ink into tiny particles more effectively, which helps your body clear it out faster. This means fewer sessions, better results (especially for tough or colored tattoos), and less risk of damage to your skin. Pico is also gentler, making it a safer and more comfortable option, especially for delicate areas like the face or permanent makeup.

How many laser session is required to removed permanent makeup eyebrows or lips or body tattoo?

The number of laser sessions needed can vary from person to person. On average, permanent makeup like eyebrows or lips may take 3 to 8 sessions, while body tattoos often need 5 to 10 sessions or more, depending on the size, ink color, depth, and how your body responds. Lighter colors like pinks, reds, and yellows can be more stubborn, and older or faded tattoos usually respond faster. Sessions are typically spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow your skin time to heal and your body to flush out the broken-down pigment. During your consultation, we’ll assess your skin and give you a more personalized estimate!

Is laser tattoo or permanent makeup removal painful?

Most clients describe the sensation during laser treatment as a mild snapping feeling, similar to a rubber band lightly hitting the skin. A topical numbing cream may be applied beforehand to minimize discomfort. Overall, laser treatments are generally well tolerated.

Am I a good candidate for laser removal service?

Laser removal is a safe and effective option for many people, but there are certain health conditions and situations where treatment is not recommended. You may not be a candidate if any of the following apply to you:

  • You’re under 18 years old

  • You have diabetes, a thyroid disorder, major heart issues, or a pacemaker

  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding

  • You’re currently undergoing chemotherapy or recently had facial laser treatments (within 1 month) or facial surgery (within 3 months)

  • You’re on blood thinners, have a weakened immune system, or are currently sick (cold, flu, etc.)

  • You have blood-borne illnesses like HIV or hepatitis

  • You have a severe skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis, skin cancer, or a history of keloid scarring

  • You have a known allergy to metals, lidocaine, or numbing agents

  • You are anemic, have uncontrolled blood pressure, or have a history of seizures or epilepsy

During your consultation, we’ll go over your medical history to ensure laser removal is safe and suitable for you. Your safety always comes first!

How long is the healing process for laser removal?

The healing process after a Pico laser treatment is generally quick and gentle compared to traditional lasers. Most people experience some redness, swelling, or mild sensitivity in the treated area for a few hours to a couple of days. The skin may feel slightly dry or flake as it heals, usually clearing up within 5 to 7 days for smaller areas like eyebrows or lips. For larger body tattoos, it might take up to 10–14 days depending on your skin type and the area treated. It’s important to keep the area clean, moisturized, and protected from the sun during healing. Full fading of the pigment continues beneath the surface over several weeks, which is why sessions are spaced out—typically every 6 to 8 weeks.

How long is the laser removal treatment time?

The actual laser removal treatment is usually quick and straightforward! For small areas like eyebrows or lips, the session can take as little as 5 to 15 minutes. For larger tattoos on the body, treatments may take 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the size, detail, and colors of the tattoo. Keep in mind that your first appointment may take a little longer to allow time for consultation, prepping the skin, and answering any questions. You'll be in and out before you know it!

How much time should I wait between each laser removal session?

We typically recommend waiting 6 to 8 weeks between each laser removal session. This gives your skin enough time to heal and allows your body to naturally break down and flush out the pigment that was treated. Rushing the process can lead to irritation or slow down your results, so spacing out your sessions is key to safe and effective removal.

When can I redo my permanent makeup for eyebrows again?

You should wait at least 8 to 12 weeks after your final laser removal session before getting your eyebrows redone. This gives your skin enough time to fully heal and allows any remaining pigment to fade or settle. Rushing into a new procedure too soon can affect how well the new pigment holds and may increase the risk of irritation or uneven results. During your consultation, we’ll assess your skin to make sure it’s ready for a fresh application.

How should I prepare for my permanent makeup brow appointment?

To get the best results and ensure a smooth procedure, here’s how to prepare before your appointment:

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners (like aspirin or ibuprofen) for at least 24 hours before your appointment, as they can increase bleeding and sensitivity.

  • No Botox or fillers in the brow area for at least 4 weeks prior.

  • Avoid tanning, direct sun exposure, or sunburn in the brow area for at least 2 weeks before.

  • Stop using retinol, glycolic acid, or other exfoliants near the brow area 1 week before your appointment.

  • No waxing, threading, or tweezing the brows for at least 3 days before.

  • Come in with clean skin and no makeup on your brows.

  • Make sure you're feeling well—if you're sick or healing from illness, it's best to reschedule.

Can I work out while my skin is healing after laser removal, and when can I safely resume exercise?

It’s best to avoid working out for the first 48 to 72 hours after your laser removal session. Sweating can irritate the treated area, slow down healing, and increase the risk of infection or scabbing. After the first few days, you can slowly resume light exercise, but avoid activities that cause heavy sweating or expose the area to heat (like hot yoga or saunas) for at least 7 days. Once the skin has fully healed and any scabbing has resolved, you can safely return to your full workout routine.
